Job Summary

The Friedrich-Loeffler-Institut, a leading research institute in animal health and welfare, is seeking an Administrative Manager for its Jena location. This critical role acts as the central link and communicator between the central administration in Greifswald and the two scientific institutes in Jena, which together employ approximately 130 staff members. Day-to-day responsibilities include leading a team of seven, serving as the primary administrative contact for all Jena site employees, and managing site operations such as grounds and building maintenance, security implementation, and coordinating occupational safety and fire protection measures. The manager will also collaborate closely with the central department on budget coordination, policy development, and driving modernization and digitalization initiatives within the administration. The ideal candidate holds a degree in Public Administration or equivalent and possesses extensive professional experience, preferably within the German Federal Administration, along with strong German communication skills and organizational talent.

Required Skills

Education

Completed university degree (Bachelor, Diplom (FH)) in Public Administration (e.g., B.A. Administrative Management/General Administration/Administrative Economics, Diploma in Administration/Administrative Business Economics) or equivalent qualification.

Experience

  • At least 5 years of professional experience in public administration (preferably in the Federal Administration)
  • Leadership experience (managing a team of 7 colleagues)
  • Professional experience in site management and security implementation

Languages

German (Fluent)

Additional

  • Knowledge of public law, especially budgetary law, occupational safety/fire protection, and property management is required.
