Job Summary

This Research Scientist role involves contributing to the EU-funded "Hydra" project, focusing on developing diagnostic tools and risk protocols to accelerate underground hydrogen storage in Europe. The core responsibilities include planning, executing, and scientifically evaluating complex laboratory experiments, specifically conducting high-pressure reactor incubations using pure cultures and environmental samples. The scientist will investigate the microbial metabolism of hydrogen under conditions simulating geological storage formations, analyzing microbial communities using molecular biology techniques, and assessing interactions with geology and fluid chemistry. A key aspect of the role is professional qualification, requiring the candidate to publish results in peer-reviewed journals and present findings at technical conferences. The ideal candidate possesses a strong background in biotechnology, microbiology, or related fields, practical experience with complex lab setups, and B2-level proficiency in both German and English.
