Job Summary

This Scientific Researcher role is focused on enhancing data quality and modeling capabilities within the Land Use, Land-Use Change, and Forestry (LULUCF) sector's Greenhouse Gas (GHG) inventory. Day-to-day tasks involve developing a comprehensive data strategy for LULUCF, improving inventory granularity, and accurately modeling the effects of climate protection measures under the Natural Climate Protection Action Program (ANK). You will also be responsible for verifying area-based calculations in the GHG inventory using alternative methods. Key qualifications include a Master's degree in a relevant technical or natural science discipline, such as Geoinformatics or Geoecology, along with demonstrated experience handling large statistical and remote sensing datasets. Strong analytical skills, advanced IT knowledge (including databases and programming like Python), and fluency in both German and English are mandatory. This position is highly attractive as it is structured to foster scientific qualification, offering the potential to pursue a PhD while contributing to socially relevant tasks in climate protection and sustainability.

Required Skills

Education

Completed scientific university degree (Master or equivalent University Diploma) in Geoinformatics, Environmental Informatics, Geography, Geoecology, Geo- or Environmental Engineering, or a comparable technical or natural science field

Experience

  • Professional experience handling large data volumes, specifically statistical data and remote sensing data
  • Knowledge in climate change and protection, including environmental impacts, carbon and nitrogen cycles, and GHG effects of land use changes
  • Experience in the independent, interdisciplinary implementation and publication of work results
  • (Desirable) Experience in modeling and calculating area-based Greenhouse Gas emissions and mitigation effects
  • (Desirable) Experience in the conception of research projects
