Job Summary
This Research Associate position at the University of Rostock focuses on cutting-edge research in waste and material flow management, specifically within the "StarTe" project aimed at climate-effective peat reduction through stable peat substitutes. The core daily tasks involve conducting research in thermal hydrophobization, with a strong emphasis on developing and validating computer-aided material and energy models, including building a digital twin for biogas production. You will also be responsible for specifying process parameters, managing measurement campaigns, creating technical reports, publishing research findings, and supervising student assistants. The ideal candidate holds a Master’s degree in a relevant engineering or scientific field (Environmental Technology, Energy Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or Process Engineering) and possesses strong modeling skills. This part-time (30 hours/week) role offers the opportunity to contribute to significant environmental research, work in an interdisciplinary team, and potentially pursue a doctorate.
Required Skills
Education
Completed scientific university degree (State Examination, Diploma, Master, or comparable degree) in Environmental Technology, Energy Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or Process Engineering, with a minimum good result.
Experience
- Professional experience in material and energy modeling (desirable)
- Experience in laboratory work and operating machinery/equipment
- Experience in working within interdisciplinary teams
Languages
Additional
- Valid Class B driver's license and willingness/ability to drive official vehicles; Minimum level of physical fitness required for laboratory work and activities involving machines and equipment.
