Job Summary

This full-time Academic Research Associate role at the University of Potsdam is situated within the Professorship for Knowledge and Technology Transfer, focusing on the ZIM cooperation project SMS (Shaft Monitoring System for Elevators). The primary objective is to advance applied research by developing and testing cutting-edge fiber optic sensors for critical infrastructure monitoring, specifically targeting sound and mold detection in elevator shafts. Key responsibilities involve the technological analysis, selection, and conceptual design of these sensors, followed by rigorous experimental evaluation in both laboratory and test shaft environments. The associate will integrate and optimize fiber optics as a communication system and produce an action catalog for a future prototype. Candidates must possess a completed Master’s degree in Natural Sciences or Engineering and demonstrate a structured, solution-oriented approach to independent lab work. This temporary position, running until September 2028, offers significant time dedicated to scientific research, including the opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree.
