Job Summary

This Research Associate position, funded by the BMBF, focuses on the development of optimized endolysins as antibiotic alternatives for the animal sector, utilizing AI-based techniques. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing and testing a high volume of in silico-optimized endolysins using innovative AI-supported protein design and high-throughput experimental methods. Key daily tasks include conducting biochemical and microbiological assays for activity and stability, and developing a larger lab-scale downstream process for isolating the 'best-hit' endolysin for disinfectant formulation. The role requires a strong background in biochemistry, molecular biology, and proficiency in bioinformatic and AI software. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to industry-near research, work in modern laboratories, and receive intensive support for pursuing a Ph.D. in cooperation with universities.

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree or University Diploma in Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or a related discipline

Experience

  • Professional experience in protein design and structural biology (Desirable)
  • Professional experience in isolating recombinant proteins from yeasts and/or E. coli (Desirable)
  • Experience working in an industry-near research project

  • The position is part-time (75% of full-time, 29.4 hours/week) and temporary until December 31, 2029. Non-EU degrees require German translation and evaluation by ZAB or ANABIN excerpt. Non-German professional qualifications require German translation and recognition.
