Job Summary

This role involves contributing significantly to the development of the superconducting linear accelerator HELIAC (Helmholtz Linear Accelerator) within the Linac department at the GSI Helmholtzzentrum, a key part of the international FAIR research project. The successful candidate will manage the procurement and monitor the manufacturing of components and cryostats for subsequent cryomodules. A major focus includes cryogenic testing of RF cavities, requiring the development of automated control systems for the vacuum-heating gas compressor. You will also participate directly in testing the initial cryomodule and assist during irradiation and beam times. Candidates must hold a university degree (M.Sc./M.Eng.) in Physics or Engineering and possess a strong interest in mechanical systems and accelerator facilities. Expertise in areas such as cryogenics, vacuum technology, programming, or industrial PLC is required, offering a challenging position within a leading international research environment.

Experience

  • Professional experience in working with mechanical systems and accelerator facilities
  • Experience in component procurement and manufacturing monitoring for complex scientific equipment
  • Experience or knowledge in Cryogenics, Vacuum Technology, Programming, or industrial SPS
  • Experience in Python programming (desirable)
  • Experience with analog and digital electronics (desirable)
