Job Summary
This role involves working as a Data Engineer within the Forest Administration's Central Office at the Research Institute for Forest Ecology and Forestry in Trippstadt, Germany. The primary focus is on a 17-month full-time project aimed at harmonizing nutrient balance data from intensive forest monitoring sites across Germany. Day-to-day tasks include reviewing existing databases, designing and documenting a new project database, developing solutions for importing unstructured data, creating input masks with validation, and automating data queries and conversions. The ideal candidate will have a background in geoinformatics, computer science, or natural/engineering sciences, possess strong skills in SQL, Access, and R, and be able to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team. This position offers the chance to contribute to crucial environmental research, understanding forest ecosystem changes, and ensuring the long-term health of Germany's forests.
Required Skills
Education
Bachelor's degree or Diploma (FH) in Geoinformatics, Computer Science, Natural Sciences, Engineering Sciences, or a comparable field with relevant subject matter.
Experience
- Professional experience with SQL and Access databases
- Professional experience with Microsoft Excel
- Very confident application of R statistical software
- Knowledge of forest ecosystems and their water and material cycles, or willingness to acquire this knowledge
