Job Summary

This Research Associate position, based at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg, focuses on cutting-edge, CO₂-free primary and secondary copper production using plasma torch technology. The successful candidate will scientifically coordinate a third-party funded project, focusing on developing efficient experimental setups to couple plasma torches with lab and pilot-scale bath smelting facilities. Key responsibilities include optimizing heat transfer and plasma-melt interaction, conducting thermochemical modeling using FactSage 8.4, and performing comprehensive analysis of raw materials and products using advanced techniques (XRD, REM-EDX, ICP-OES, XRF, TGA). This role requires a background in Metallurgy, Process Engineering, or Materials Science, strong interest in applied experimental research, and excellent English skills. It offers the opportunity for further scientific qualification within an international team and collaboration with industry partners.

Required Skills

Education

University Diploma, Master's degree, or PhD in Metallurgy, Process Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, or comparable field

Experience

  • Professional experience in Pyrometallurgy or other high-temperature processes (preferred)
  • Professional experience in thermodynamical modeling (preferred)
  • Interest in experimental application-oriented research
