Job Summary

The Max Planck Institute is seeking a highly motivated Student Assistant to join Dr. Michael Weber’s group, focusing on developing innovative nanoscale optical microscopy techniques for real-time biological studies. This role involves essential experimental support and lab operations within a multidisciplinary environment that combines chemistry, physics, and engineering. Key daily tasks include performance characterization of opto-mechanical setups, electronics, and lasers, including bench tests and documentation. The assistant will also be responsible for assembling and aligning basic optical components, providing electronics support (simple circuits and troubleshooting), and managing lab maintenance and inventory. Ideal candidates are currently enrolled students, preferably in physics or engineering, with a strong interest in optics and experimental research, and possess good proficiency in English, which is the primary working language.

Experience

  • Current student enrollment at a German university
  • Ability to work independently and carefully at the bench

  • Basic electronics knowledge
