Job Summary

This role involves supporting the STATUS project at the Leibniz Institute for Baltic Sea Research (IOW), focusing on the carbon fixation functions of biogenic reefs in the Baltic Sea, particularly mussel beds. The Technical Assistant will be responsible for the collection, processing, and measurement of marine macrozoobenthos and sediment samples. Key daily tasks include determining species composition, abundance, and biomass of marine macrozoobenthos communities through macro- and microscopic laboratory analysis, and measuring abiotic and biotic parameters (e.g., DIC, TA, DOC, POC). The position requires a qualification as a Biological Laboratory Technician or equivalent, substantial experience in microscopy, taxonomy, and sampling methods both at sea and on land. This is a full-time, fixed-term position until September 2027, offering the opportunity to contribute to significant marine research in a supportive, interdisciplinary environment.
