Job Summary

This Research Associate role at the Federal Institute of Hydrology (BfG) in Koblenz focuses on the critical intersection of transport infrastructure and environmental sustainability. The successful candidate will spearhead the conception and execution of inter-modal studies assessing the impact of infrastructure maintenance and operation on biodiversity and structural habitat diversity, particularly concerning the spread and control of Neobiota (invasive species). Key responsibilities include developing digital tools to support biodiversity-friendly maintenance practices, testing innovative assessment methods, and publishing research findings in professional journals and conferences. This position requires a Master’s degree in Biology, Aquatic Ecology, or Environmental Sciences, coupled with expertise in vegetation science, habitat management, GIS, and policy consulting. This is a unique opportunity to contribute applied scientific knowledge directly to the Federal Ministry of Transport, ensuring the sustainable management of Germany's waterways and infrastructure within a supportive, interdisciplinary research network.

Completed scientific university degree (University Diploma/Master) in Biology, Aquatic Ecology, Geo-/Environmental Sciences, or comparable qualification
