Job Summary

The Federal Institute of Hydrology (BfG) is seeking a Research Scientist for a fixed-term project (FraGen) focused on developing and applying eDNA-based methods to assess the genetic fragmentation of fish populations in federal waterways. This role involves designing and optimizing procedures for analyzing the population genetics and genetic diversity of selected fish species using environmental DNA (eDNA), including conducting laboratory experiments and field studies in various river systems. Key responsibilities include statistical and bioinformatic analysis of extensive datasets, documentation, and presenting findings at national and international conferences and in peer-reviewed journals. The ideal candidate holds a Master's degree in Biology or Aquatic Ecology with a focus on Molecular Ecology or Population Genetics, possesses strong analytical skills, and is proficient in R/Studio and/or Python for data analysis.
