Job Summary

This specialist role involves driving the integration of cutting-edge Quantum Computing (QC) capabilities into next-generation High-Performance Computing (HPC) systems at LRZ. Day-to-day activities include contributing to research on QC integration for use cases like quantum simulations, optimization, and QML, while also acting as a "solution architect" to help scientific users efficiently leverage new QC services. You will participate actively in research projects, interface with internal teams (HPC, AI/ML, Data Management), and contribute domain expertise to foster new collaborations. The ideal candidate holds a PhD in a relevant scientific or technical field (Physics, Computational Science, Engineering) and possesses strong programming skills (C/C++, Python, or Julia). This position offers the unique opportunity to work with advanced quantum hardware and contribute significantly to advancing Bavaria as a global quantum hotspot, supported by a dynamic team and flexible work arrangements, including up to 60% mobile work.

Education

Experience

  • Professional experience in research and technical activities focused on integrating Quantum Computing into HPC ecosystems
  • Experience supporting scientific users in efficiently leveraging novel QC services (Solution Architect role)
  • Experience participating in and forging new collaborations within research projects
  • Desirable: Experience and interest in aligning activities towards project milestones and deliverables
