Job Summary

This permanent, full-time position in Göttingen, Germany, is for an Environmental Engineer within the Lower Saxony State Agency for Water Management, Coastal and Nature Conservation (NLWKN). The role is vital for the State Hydrological Service, focusing on the chemical quality and assessment of surface waters. Day-to-day duties involve coordinating statements and consultations for Public Authorities (TÖB) concerning water quality, evaluating and ensuring the plausibility of hydrological qualitative data, and conducting annual data evaluations for dissemination to third parties. A key responsibility includes serving as the business manager for the Leine/Ruhme and Leine/Ilme regional cooperations, directly supporting the successful implementation of the European Water Framework Directive (WRRL). Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent Diploma) in Chemistry or Environmental Science, excellent German communication skills, and proficiency in MS Office and ArcGIS. This role offers flexible working hours and the opportunity to contribute significantly to environmental protection and water resource management in Lower Saxony.

Required Skills

Education

Completed university degree (Dipl.-Ing. (FH) or Bachelor) in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a comparable natural science field.

Experience

  • Knowledge of chemical and hydrological fundamentals is advantageous
  • Knowledge of implementation-relevant content of the EG-Water Framework Directive (WRRL) is advantageous
  • Professional experience in coordinating statements and consulting public bodies
  • Willingness to conduct field work
