Job Summary

This doctoral researcher position at the University of Wuppertal focuses on a critical research project involving the alloy development of Duplex steels for Additive Manufacturing (AM). The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting cutting-edge material testing using modern methods, preparing comprehensive scientific reports and publications, and presenting findings at project meetings and conferences. Key requirements include a Master's degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or Physics, coupled with strong foundational knowledge in materials science, metallurgy of steels, and experience in setting up and executing experiments. The role also involves supporting academic teaching (4 contact hours) and supervising student theses, offering a blend of rigorous research, academic instruction, and interdisciplinary collaboration in an international environment.

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree (or equivalent) in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or Physics

Experience

  • Experience in setting up and conducting experiments
  • Practical experience in additive manufacturing and material testing of steels (Highly desirable)
  • Knowledge in metallographic characterization and Fe-Base materials (especially Duplex steels, MMC, FGM)
  • Experience using computer-aided methods for material development
