Job Summary

This role is for a highly motivated Ph.D. level Research Scientist specializing in X-ray imaging, specifically computed tomography, to join the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) in Berlin. The successful candidate will be responsible for the operation and advancement of micro-CT facilities, developing and applying advanced X-ray tomographic methods for non-destructive material characterization, including in-situ experiments. Key responsibilities also include coordinating scientific activities in computed tomography, actively acquiring and leading research projects, and mentoring junior researchers. The position requires applying AI methods for quantitative data analysis and extensive scientific documentation through publications and presentations, working in a dynamic environment at the intersection of science, industry, and policy.

Required Skills

Education

Ph.D. in Physics, Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a comparable field

Experience

  • Professional experience in computed tomography
  • Professional experience in digital image processing and analysis
  • Experience in operation and maintenance of computed tomographs
  • Experience in non-destructive testing for industrial applications
  • Experience in the conception and realization of experimental setups and instrumentation, especially for in-situ experiments
  • Experience in the acquisition, leadership, and execution of research projects
  • Experience in supervising students and doctoral candidates
  • Experience in planning computed tomography laboratories (desirable)
