Job Summary

The Landeshauptstadt Stuttgart is seeking a dedicated Linux and Virtualization System Administrator to join its Platforms Team within the Department for Technical Infrastructure and IT Security. In this role, you will be instrumental in ensuring the stable and secure operation of the city's central IT infrastructure, focusing on Linux-based systems and virtualization technologies like Proxmox and VMware vSphere. Your daily tasks will include orchestrating and administering servers, advising internal clients, coordinating external service providers, and debugging complex issues. You will also be responsible for applying BSI basic protection guidelines, securing backups, and driving innovation through process automation and script development. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to critical public sector IT, leveraging your expertise in system administration, IT security, and automation to maintain and evolve essential digital services for the city.

Required Skills

Education

Completed university degree (Bachelor) in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a comparable field, OR completed vocational training as an IT Specialist for System Integration, Digital Networking, or Data and Process Analysis, or a comparable IT training.

Experience

  • At least 3 years of relevant professional experience (following education)
  • Proven practical experience in IT security, ideally with BSI Basic Protection, ISO 27001, or KRITIS
  • Experience in automation and script creation with common languages
  • Experience with common tools for automation, configuration management, and monitoring
