Job Summary

The TU Bergakademie Freiberg is seeking a Research Associate to join the Institute for Non-Ferrous Metallurgy and High-Purity Materials. This role involves coordinating and managing a project focused on the recycling of End-of-Life materials, specifically Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolyzers/fuel cells. The successful candidate will quantify the environmental impact of PEM units using life cycle assessments, including simulation-based modeling of production, recycling, and disposal. Key responsibilities also include developing flowcharts for promising recycling processes, process modeling and optimization with simulation tools like HSC Sim and Python, and collaborating with industry partners and an international team. The position requires presenting project results at meetings, conferences, and through publications, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to sustainable metallurgy and materials science.

Required Skills

Education

University Diploma or Master's degree or PhD in Sustainable Metallurgy, Process Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, or a comparable field

Experience

  • Experience in simulation-based research
  • Laboratory experience in hydrometallurgical and thermodynamic modeling (advantageous)
