Job Summary

This role involves supporting the Water Protection department at the Rhineland-Palatinate State Office for the Environment in Mainz. The successful candidate will be responsible for the operation, control, maintenance, and calibration of measuring and sampling equipment at various stations, including the Rhine Water Monitoring Station. Key duties include year-round, regular outdoor sampling of surface waters and river measuring stations, on-site analysis using handheld devices (e.g., pH, oxygen), and preparing samples for laboratory analysis. The position also entails laboratory tasks at external stations, such as calibrating probes and maintaining sensors, as well as data entry, validation, and maintenance in databases. This is a full-time, permanent position offering an interesting and varied workplace with opportunities for professional development and flexible working hours.

Required Skills

Education

Successfully completed vocational training as an Environmental Protection Technical Assistant, Chemical Laboratory Technician, or a comparable vocational training.

Experience

  • Readiness for full-day and year-round outdoor assignments, occasionally up to ten working hours
  • Experience in operating technical facilities such as measuring stations (advantageous)
  • Knowledge of water chemistry (advantageous)
  • Experience in conducting sampling on flowing waters (advantageous)
  • Practical experience and knowledge in handling mobile and permanently installed measuring equipment (advantageous)
  • Knowledge in handling database applications (advantageous)

  • Valid Class B driving license (formerly Class 3) and willingness to drive official vehicles or be driven by a work assistant in accordance with SGB IX. Physical requirements include bending, lifting, carrying loads up to 15 kg, alternating sitting and standing, and stability on inclines.
