Job Summary

The Helmholtz Institute for RNA-based Infection Research (HIRI) is seeking two highly motivated Junior Group Leaders to conduct cutting-edge research in RNA Biology, RNA Technologies, or RNA Medicine. In this role, you will lead a research group focusing on areas such as microbial RNA, phage and eukaryotic viral RNA, host immune responses, single-cell RNA-seq, CRISPR-Cas, RNA visualization, RNA modifications, or RNA as a therapeutic target/effector. A key part of your responsibilities will be fostering scientific talent, securing external funding, and contributing to academic self-governance. This position offers an exciting opportunity to drive innovative therapeutic approaches for diagnosing and treating human infections within a collaborative and international research environment, supported by state-of-the-art infrastructure and modern technologies.

Required Skills

Education

University degree (Biology, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Human Medicine, or comparable discipline) and outstanding PhD in life sciences, natural sciences, or medicine.

Experience

  • Early career stage (preferably no more than four years post-PhD, or seven years for medical professionals)
  • Gender-sensitive and diversity-aware leadership experience
  • Initial experience and enjoyment in leading a team
  • Research profile with international visibility
  • Strong publication record commensurate with career stage
  • Comprehensive understanding of molecular biology lab techniques and workflows
