Job Summary

The Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) is seeking a dedicated Technical Assistant to join the Bacterial Infection Ecology (BINE) department in Braunschweig. This role is crucial for supporting cutting-edge research focused on the spatial structure of the human microbiota and its role in health and infection. Day-to-day responsibilities include executing advanced techniques, particularly automated staining combined with microscopy, conducting scientific experiments with bacterial pathogens at biosafety level 2, and meticulous documentation of results following good scientific practice. The assistant will also play a key role in laboratory organization, including managing procurement, obtaining quotes, and maintaining microscopes and equipment. The ideal candidate possesses a relevant technical assistance qualification, experience in fluorescence microscopy, molecular biology methods (especially staining/hybridization), and knowledge of microbiology and bacterial cultivation. This position offers an attractive, varied role in an international, future-oriented research environment with modern infrastructure and flexible working hours, initially for a two-year fixed term.

Completed technical assistance training or comparable education with equivalent skills and experience

Experience

  • Professional experience in fluorescence microscopy
  • Professional experience in molecular biological methods, particularly staining

  • Knowledge in microbiology including the cultivation of bacteria
