Job Summary

This leadership role at the State Institute for Environment Baden-Württemberg in Karlsruhe involves overseeing Department 61, focusing on organic trace substance analytics and Rhine monitoring. The successful candidate will lead a team of 21 professionals, including chemists and chemical engineers, in analyzing environmental samples for organic trace substances like pesticides, pharmaceuticals, and heavy metals using advanced analytical instruments. Key responsibilities include conducting trace substance investigations, daily monitoring of Rhine samples, developing new analytical methods, making investment decisions for new measurement technologies, and ensuring quality assurance according to DIN EN 17025. The role also involves coordinating the laboratory information and management system (LIMS) across different departments, requiring strong leadership, analytical expertise, and experience in a quality-assured environment.

Required Skills

Education

University degree in Natural Sciences with a strong analytical focus in Chemistry or Food Chemistry, preferably with a doctorate. Master's degrees not acquired at a university must be accredited for access to higher civil service at the time of graduation. For foreign degrees, a certificate evaluation from the Central Office for Foreign Education is required.

Experience

  • Several years of practical experience in instrumental analytics, especially organic trace substances, in a quality-assured area
