Job Summary

This role is for a dedicated Research Associate specializing in botanical species protection at the Bavarian Centre for Species Protection (BayAZ) in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The successful candidate will be instrumental in managing species conservation programs for endangered plant species, particularly focusing on the Alpine and pre-Alpine regions. Key responsibilities include developing strategies for state-level nature conservation instruments, supporting FFH-monitoring for mosses and vascular plants, and providing expert advice on botanical species protection, neophytes, invasive species, and cryptogams. The position requires strong botanical and vegetation knowledge, experience with nature conservation data, and excellent communication skills to collaborate with volunteer nature conservation groups and contribute to public relations. Required Skills

Education

University degree (Diplom or Master) in Biology, Ecology, or a comparable field with a specialization in Botany / Vegetation Science

Experience

  • Professional experience in nature conservation, preferably in state environmental administration with a focus on botanical species protection
  • Experience with species recovery programs is desirable
  • Experience in project steering is advantageous

Languages

German (Fluent)

Additional

  • Willingness to undertake business trips, including outside of regular working hours
  • Driver's license Class B is advantageous
  • Part-time position (80%)
  • Fixed-term contract until November 30, 2026
