Job Summary
This role involves supporting the Bavarian State Office for the Environment in integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) into their geological data management processes. The specialist will identify potential AI application areas, develop and train AI models, and program custom applications or scripts to enhance efficiency in processing vast amounts of geological data. Additionally, the position includes collaborating with external service providers for IT development, which involves drafting tender documents, conducting requirements analysis, defining use cases and test cases, coordinating tasks, and testing deliverables. A key responsibility will also be migrating Python scripts from ArcGIS to QGIS as part of a transition to open-source GIS programs. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a forward-thinking project aimed at modernizing data handling and automation within a public environmental agency.
Required Skills
Education
University degree (Dipl. Univ. / Master) in Computer Science, Geoinformatics, Natural Sciences, or Engineering with relevant IT qualification or professional experience; or equivalent abilities and experience.
Experience
- Professional experience in programming and IT development, potentially with AI applications
- Experience in Python programming
- Experience with relational database technologies and SQL
- Knowledge in the application and training of AI technologies (advantageous)
- Knowledge in requirements analysis, creation of application and test cases, and tendering of IT developments (advantageous)
- Good knowledge in the GIS area (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS)

Additional
- Temporary position until December 31, 2030. Must meet the requirements for a temporary employment relationship with the Free State of Bavaria for the entire project duration. Flexibility and willingness for occasional business trips (valid Class B driving license required).
