Job Summary
Join a dynamic team at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Bremerhaven, focusing on cutting-edge research and development for maritime security. This role involves leading a team of software developers, data scientists, and system engineers to explore and implement distributed decision architectures and cooperative swarm strategies for autonomous underwater, surface, and aerial systems. You will define and manage R&D projects, develop new concepts and prototypes, and coordinate integration with navigation, communication, and sensor networks. The position requires a strong background in autonomous systems, AI-driven robotics, or intelligent multi-agent systems, with a focus on safety-critical applications. Required Skills
Education
Completed scientific university degree (Master or Diploma Uni) in Engineering or Natural Sciences (e.g., Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Physics) or another relevant field.
Experience
- Relevant experience in the development of autonomous systems, AI-driven robotics, and/or intelligent multi-agent systems, ideally with a focus on safety-critical applications
- In-depth experience in the conception and implementation of complex experiments, prototypes, and system tests
- Proven scientific or engineering excellence, demonstrated through a doctorate or a leadership position in research-intensive industry
- Relevant experience in guiding scientific-technical work, such as technical leadership in projects or supervision of theses
- Long-term experience in working with interdisciplinary teams and/or external partners

- Initial contract limited to 3 years, with a long-term employment goal. Compensation according to public service collective agreements (Bund).
