Job Summary

This role involves cutting-edge research in synthetic aperture sonar (SAS) technology, specifically focusing on multi-frequency SAS systems for seabed classification and object discrimination. The successful candidate will investigate the interaction of frequency-dependent propagation and imaging effects with signal processing to calibrate SAS images and analyze backscatter strength. This position offers a unique opportunity for scientific advancement, including the pursuit of a doctorate, within an international research team. The role is based at Helmut Schmidt University / University of the Federal Armed Forces Hamburg and is a full-time, fixed-term position until December 31, 2028, funded by a third-party research project. It combines advanced digital signal processing with practical application in hydro-acoustics, leveraging experimental facilities and data from a project partner, including an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV).
