Job Summary

The GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher in Hydroacoustics to join their DeepSea Monitoring department. This role is crucial for the TRANKIEL project, focusing on researching and modeling techniques to reduce sound propagation from underwater explosions, specifically in Kiel Bay. The successful candidate will conduct literature and software research on seismo-acoustic sound propagation modeling, acquire and process relevant data, and contribute to developing a comprehensive hydroacoustic and geological model of Kiel Bay. This involves implementing and modeling various underwater explosion sources, synthetic bubble screens, and other artificial sound barriers to determine optimal locations and times for underwater detonations. The role requires analyzing results and validating models against real-world measurement data.
