Job Summary

The GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel is seeking a Scientific Researcher to join the Chemical Oceanography research unit for an 18-month fixed-term project starting May 1, 2026. The core focus of this role is to leverage satellite-based Chlorophyll-a fluorescence signals to extract information regarding phytoplankton physiology, specifically focusing on nutrient limitation. This work utilizes recent findings from field and laboratory studies conducted during the initial phase of the European Research Council-funded 'Ocean Glow' project. The ideal candidate holds a PhD in Environmental/Life Sciences or a computational field, possesses demonstrated independent research capabilities, and has strong programming skills (R, Matlab, Python). Experience in marine biogeochemistry, phytoplankton ecology, or satellite remote sensing is advantageous.
