Job Summary

This role involves leading the Radiation Protection Group for the FRG/HL facility at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon, focusing on the decommissioning and dismantling of nuclear facilities. The successful candidate will act as a deputy radiation protection officer, ensuring the monitoring of radiation levels, air activity, and contamination, and advising leadership on necessary operational radiation protection measures. Key responsibilities include overseeing personnel and workplace monitoring, conducting environmental surveillance, managing personal dosimetry, and maintaining radiation protection measurement technology. The position requires expertise in nuclear regulations, experience in applying for and managing nuclear licensing changes, and a background in nuclear engineering or a related field, along with initial leadership experience. It's an opportunity to contribute to critical nuclear safety operations in a leading research center.

Required Skills

Education

University degree (Dipl.-Ing. [UNI] or M.Sc.) in Nuclear Technology, Nuclear Engineering, Nuclear Chemistry, Nuclear Physics, or comparable field

Experience

  • Several years of professional experience in radiation protection
  • Initial leadership experience
  • Strong knowledge of the Atomic Energy Act (AtG), Radiation Protection Act (StrlSchG), and Radiation Protection Ordinance (StrlSchV)
  • Strong knowledge of relevant sub-statutory nuclear technical regulations
  • Very good knowledge in applying for and managing nuclear licensing change procedures
  • Experience in measurement technology (e.g., contamination monitors, dose rate meters, gamma spectrometry)
