Job Summary

The University of Saarland is seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to join their Institute of Virology. This role focuses on developing novel therapies against human polyomaviruses, specifically targeting BK Polyomavirus infections in kidney and bone marrow transplant patients. The successful candidate will utilize cutting-edge 3D cell culture and genomic technologies, working within a collaborative international scientific environment connected to the Helmholtz Institute for Pharmaceutical Research Saarland (HIPS) and the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI). Key responsibilities include applying various cellular, molecular, and immunological methods, managing human sample material and biohazardous substances, and collaborating with genetics, bioinformatics, and medicinal chemistry colleagues. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to significant antiviral research with direct clinical relevance.

Required Skills

Education

Completed scientific university degree in Natural or Life Sciences (e.g., Biology, Biochemistry, Medicine, Pharmacy) and a doctorate (Dr. rer. nat., PhD, or equivalent)

Experience

  • Professional experience in cell and molecular biological techniques (advantageous)
  • Experience working with human sample material, biomaterials, and GMOs of Risk Group 2
  • Experience handling isotopes
