Job Summary

This role as a Research Associate at TU Bergakademie Freiberg focuses on advancing the field of material science, specifically in plasma-supported surface hardening of metallic materials. The successful candidate will be responsible for the scientific execution of a DFG-funded project, involving the planning and conducting of material treatments using plasma nitriding equipment. A key aspect of the role is the application of laser spectroscopic plasma analytics during experiments to correlate process parameters with surface properties. This position offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with scientists from the Leibniz Institute for Surface Modification IOM Leipzig, present research findings at international conferences, and publish in scientific journals, contributing to cutting-edge research in innovative surface technologies.

Required Skills

Education

University Diploma or Master's degree in Materials Engineering, Materials Science, Applied Natural Science, or comparable natural/engineering science disciplines.

Experience

  • Knowledge and/or practical experience in surface technology
  • Knowledge and/or practical experience in heat or surface layer treatment of metallic materials
  • Knowledge and/or practical experience in material testing
  • Knowledge and/or practical experience in metallurgical analysis methods

  • This is a fixed-term contract for 36 months, within the framework of a third-party funded project. Candidates must meet the requirements for fixed-term employment contracts under the WissZeitVG (German Act on Fixed-Term Employment Contracts in Academia).
