Job Summary

This position offers a highly motivated individual the opportunity to join the Research Institute for Pediatric Cancer Center at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) as a PhD student. The role focuses on cutting-edge research into pediatric brain and spinal cord tumors, a critical challenge in cancer research. The successful candidate will utilize advanced technologies like single-cell RNA sequencing and spatial transcriptomics to understand tumor heterogeneity and its impact on treatment resistance. The project involves analyzing human tumor samples and applying findings to in-vitro and in-vivo models, in collaboration with other leading research centers. This is a part-time, fixed-term position within a highly interdisciplinary and supportive team, offering access to state-of-the-art facilities and opportunities for professional development and scientific publication.

Required Skills

Education

Master of Science (MSc.) or equivalent in Biology, Molecular Biology, or a related field; Participation in the structured PhD program of the faculty is intended.

Experience

  • Strong interest in molecular biological research and working on an ambitious project
  • Ability to visualize, present, and publish scientific data
  • General openness to conducting mouse experiments
  • First experience with Single Cell and Spatial Transcriptomics technologies (desirable)
  • Initial experience in in-vivo modeling and animal experimentation (desirable)
  • Experience with Omics data (desirable)

  • Measles immunization/immunity proof required prior to employment; Fixed-term contract for three years; Part-time (65% of regular weekly working hours); Willingness to acquire FELASA B certificate (animal experimentation course) if no prior experience.
