Job Summary

This role is for a Research Associate in Computational Linguistics / Digital Humanities to contribute to a fascinating interdisciplinary project analyzing Viennese newspapers from the interwar period, focusing on eugenics and biopolitics. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing historical newspaper corpora, including reconstructing articles from OCR data and extracting metadata. Key tasks also involve extracting content elements like proper names, metaphors, and motifs, and maintaining the technical infrastructure for data analysis used by project partners. This position offers a unique opportunity to experiment with new computational methods for historical text analysis and potentially pursue a PhD. The role requires strong programming skills in Python and practical experience with Transformer-based and large language models, alongside excellent communication skills for interdisciplinary collaboration.

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree (Magister/Diplom) in Information Processing, Computational Linguistics, Digital Humanities with a focus on text data processing, or comparable.

Experience
