Job Summary

The University of Rostock is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate in High Energy Density Physics to join the 'Dynamic Megabar Chemistry' (MEGACHEM) ERC project. This role involves conducting cutting-edge research into chemical processes under extreme pressure and temperature conditions, which are not found naturally on Earth. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, executing, and evaluating laser-driven dynamic compression experiments to synthesize novel carbon structures. This includes working with the High Energy Density Physics group's laser systems and at international large-scale research facilities like European XFEL and ELI Beamlines. Additionally, the role includes co-supervising students and doctoral candidates within the MEGACHEM project and publishing research findings. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated physicist with a strong background in high energy density physics and experimental work to contribute to groundbreaking scientific discoveries in a supportive and international academic environment.

Required Skills

Education

Doctorate (PhD) in Physics or a comparable field. Completed university degree (State Examination, Diploma, Master, or comparable) in Physics with a good academic record.

Experience

  • Professional experience in high energy density physics, particularly with matter at Mbar range pressures
  • Experience with experiments on laser-driven dynamic compression of matter
  • Desirable: Experience with high-energy laser systems and sample preparation for such systems
  • Experience in international research collaborations
