Job Summary
This role involves critical technical and engineering review of coastal protection measures planned by or for the state, focusing on built-up areas. The successful candidate will analyze and evaluate coastal development impacts on land use, contribute to applied coastal protection principles, and assist in developing design guidelines. Key responsibilities also include safety inspections of existing coastal protection facilities and providing expert advice to authorities, clients, planners, and communities on coastal and flood protection, including engineering calculations. The position requires drafting expert opinions on coastal protection aspects related to the Marine Strategy Framework Directive. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with expertise in hydraulic engineering and GIS to contribute to vital environmental protection efforts in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
Required Skills
Education
University degree (Bachelor, FH-Diplom or equivalent) in Engineering (e.g., Hydraulic Engineering, Coastal Hydraulic Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geotechnics) or a comparable relevant field.
Experience
- Professional experience in coastal protection, including relevant regulations and guidelines for Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
- Proven experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS), e.g., QGIS
- Desirable: Experience in planning engineering structures, especially earthworks and foundations (e.g., dikes, dams)
- Desirable: Experience in structural inspection and safety guidelines for assessing stability, durability, and serviceability of engineering structures
