Job Summary

This role offers a unique opportunity to lead a research group at the intersection of computer science and mechanical engineering at the Helmut-Schmidt-Universität/ Universität der Bundeswehr Hamburg. The successful candidate will be responsible for the technical and organizational management of the professorship, focusing on Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence methods for Cyber-Physical Production Systems. Key areas of research include symbolic AI algorithms in product development, symbolic AI methods, and Virtual/Augmented Reality applications, particularly for anomaly detection, predictive maintenance, diagnosis, and optimization in manufacturing and plant/mechanical engineering. The position involves securing and coordinating national and international third-party funded research projects, managing a team of up to 15 scientific staff, and representing the professorship externally through publications and presentations at conferences. Additionally, the role includes independent teaching and examination responsibilities in "Artificial Intelligence in Engineering Sciences" and fostering collaboration within the university. Required Skills

Education

Master's or Diploma (University) degree in Industrial Engineering or a comparable field of Computer Science, with a grade of at least 2.0 (good).

Experience

  • Professional experience in symbolic AI methods for technical and physical systems, especially in conceptual product development
  • Expertise in developing and applying formalized AI methods to support engineering development processes, demonstrated through professional activity and publications
  • Professional experience in applying Virtual Reality technologies in product development
  • Extensive experience in independent scientific work, demonstrated through professional activity in academia and publications
  • Knowledge and experience in university teaching in "Artificial Intelligence in Engineering Sciences" (desirable)
  • Knowledge and experience in university self-governance and departmental operations (desirable)
  • Knowledge and experience in teaching and research within the Bundeswehr (desirable)

  • Eligibility for higher civil service in Germany, or at least 2.5 years of relevant professional experience post-graduation for civil servant appointment
