Job Summary

Join the GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel as an Engineer for High-Tech Submersible Robots, contributing to cutting-edge marine research. This role involves the maintenance, development, and operation of advanced remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) like the ROV KIEL 6000 and ROV PHOCA, which are crucial for deep-sea exploration. You will collaborate with manufacturers and researchers to integrate new scientific modules and ensure the readiness of ROVs for expeditions. A significant part of the job includes participating in multi-week or multi-month sea expeditions, often as an ROV pilot, working in shifts. This position offers a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic, international environment, directly contributing to the preservation and protection of the ocean for future generations, with a strong emphasis on innovative technology and hands-on operational experience.

Required Skills

Education

University degree (Bachelor or Master) in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a comparable field. Technical vocational training (desirable).

Experience

  • Professional experience in measurement technology and mechanics
  • Experience with large equipment in marine research, preferably with submersible robots (desirable)
  • Experience with SPS controlled systems and frequency converter operation (desirable)
  • Experience with hydraulic systems and their control (desirable)
