Job Summary
This role at the Leibniz Institute of Photonic Technology (Leibniz-IPHT) in Jena offers a unique opportunity for a highly motivated individual to contribute to cutting-edge research in optical-molecular diagnostics. The successful candidate will be responsible for researching, establishing, verifying, and validating multiparameter systems for antibiotic-resistant and potentially virulent bacteria relevant to human and veterinary medicine. Key responsibilities include conducting laboratory work in biosafety levels S1, S2, and S3**, performing conventional microbiological and molecular biological procedures, and engaging in sequence analysis and bioinformatics. The position also involves collaborating with industry partners to translate scientific findings into products, preparing project documentation, publishing results, and presenting findings internationally. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented professional with a strong background in life sciences to make a significant impact in a world-class research environment.
Required Skills
Education
Master's degree (or equivalent/higher) in Biochemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Chemical Biology, or advanced/completed studies in Medicine or Veterinary Medicine.
Experience
- Experience working with pathogenic microorganisms (desired)
- Experience in supervising students (internships, Master's, Bachelor's) (desired)
- Experience in diagnostic laboratory procedures or hospital hygiene facilities (helpful)
- Industry experience in biotechnology (welcome)
Languages
Additional
- Willingness to work with pathogenic (biosafety levels 2 and 3**) and/or antibiotic-resistant bacteria and potentially infectious patient material (e.g., blood, stool samples, wound swabs).
