Job Summary
This role is for a dedicated and resilient leader to manage the "Radioactivity Determination and Radiological Water Assessment" department within the Environmental Laboratory of the Rhineland-Palatinate State Office for the Environment in Mainz, Germany. The successful candidate will be responsible for the scientific, technical, and organizational leadership of a team of scientific and technical staff. Key responsibilities include work planning, task coordination, analytical quality assurance (in accordance with DIN EN/ISO 17025), ensuring laboratory equipment functionality, managing lab supplies, and overseeing safe working practices. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to environmental protection and public safety through critical analytical work in a certified laboratory environment, offering a stable career path within the public service.
Required Skills
Education
Master's degree or equivalent (Diplom Univ. / TH / TU) in Chemistry, Physics, or a comparable field with proven experience in instrumental radionuclide analysis in aqueous and solid matrices.
Experience
- Experience in and with employee leadership
- Several years of practical experience in radionuclide analysis in aqueous and solid matrices within a quality-assured environment
- Experience in inter-agency working groups and committees
Languages
Additional
- Must be an engaged, resilient, and independent leader with strong communication skills, a sense of responsibility, creativity, innovation, and resilience. Knowledge of quality assurance measures according to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025, QMH, and AQS regulations is beneficial. Knowledge of relevant DIN standards and LAWA AQS guidelines for monitoring radioactive substances in the environment and external radiation is beneficial. Experience in implementing the Integrated Measurement and Information System (IMIS) and the Guideline for Emission and Immission Monitoring of Nuclear Facilities (REI) is beneficial. Knowledge of applicable legal norms such as StrlSchG (IMIS), StrlSchV (REI), Surface Water, Groundwater, and Wastewater Ordinances is beneficial. Foreign educational qualifications require proof of equivalence with a German degree.
