Job Summary
This role involves the crucial task of ensuring the smooth operation and continuous improvement of High-Performance Computing (HPC) systems at the GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research, a leading particle accelerator facility in Darmstadt, Germany. The successful candidate will be responsible for deploying, maintaining, and operating container-based workload management systems like Kubernetes and Slurm, as well as installing and automating Enterprise Linux clusters. A key focus will be on maintaining system stability, scalability, and performance, alongside developing and managing monitoring solutions using Prometheus and Grafana. The position requires a professional with a strong background in IT, particularly in Linux system administration and automation, who is eager to contribute to world-class scientific research in an international environment.
Required Skills
Education
Master's degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Physics, or a comparable field
Experience
- Professional experience in deploying and managing Kubernetes and/or Slurm clusters
- Professional experience in Linux system administration (RHEL, CentOS, Rocky Linux)
- Professional experience in automated system setup with PXE, Kickstart, and Anaconda
- Professional experience in error analysis and performance optimization of HPC systems
- Professional experience in setting up and maintaining Prometheus/Grafana monitoring systems
- Professional experience in system automation with Ansible and CINC and common scripting languages
- Professional experience with version control systems like Git/GitLab
- Professional experience in package management with DNF and RPM in Linux environments
