Job Summary

The City of Duisburg is seeking a dedicated Flood Protection Officer to join its Environmental Office, specifically within the Climate and Flood Protection division. This role is crucial for implementing the European Flood Risk Management Directive and ensuring the city's resilience against extreme weather events. Day-to-day responsibilities include administrative tasks related to flood prevention, technical flood protection, and risk preparedness, as well as coordinating responses during flood events. The successful candidate will also manage and oversee the maintenance and financing of municipal flood protection facilities and lead projects focused on climate-adapted urban development. Required Skills

Education

Completed university degree (Bachelor or Diploma FH) in Civil Engineering with a focus on Hydraulic Engineering/Water Management, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Technical Environmental Protection with a focus on Civil Engineering or Geotechnics, Geography with a focus on Water Bodies, or a comparable field.

Experience

  • Professional experience in flood and overflow protection
  • Knowledge of relevant legal foundations, DIN standards, and technical regulations (KAnG, WHG, LWG, HWRM-RL)
  • Knowledge of the structure and processes of municipal administration (advantageous)
