Job Summary

The Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics is seeking a dedicated Materials Testing Engineer to join their Plasma Edge and Wall (E2M) division in Garching, Germany. This role involves the setup, modification, procurement, and operation of thermal analysis systems, including laser flash, thermogravimetric analysis, and high-temperature furnaces. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting and evaluating thermal conductivity measurements, oxidation, and outgassing tests, as well as assisting with surface analyses using electron microscopy and X-ray diffractometry. A key aspect of the role also includes taking on responsibilities in occupational safety and radiation protection. Both experienced senior engineers and motivated junior engineers are encouraged to apply, with comprehensive training provided by experienced mentors. Required Skills

Education

University degree (Bachelor or Master) in Technical Physics, Applied Physics, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a comparable field.

Experience

  • Professional experience in thermal analysis and microstructure analysis of metallic materials (advantageous)
  • Experience in surface diagnostics and electron microscopy (advantageous)
  • Experience in international projects (advantageous)
