Job Summary

Join a dynamic research group at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal as a PhD Candidate in Astrophysics. You will conduct independent research within a collaborative Special Research Area, focusing on the acceleration, transport, and interactions of cosmic rays in young massive star clusters. This role involves advanced numerical modeling using open-source software on high-performance computing clusters, with your work being compared against experimental data from various observatories. You'll benefit from close collaboration with international experts and a comprehensive graduate program. The position requires a Master's degree in Physics, strong interest in numerical modeling of cosmic ray transport, and proficiency in object-oriented programming, particularly C++ and Python. Excellent English skills and a passion for teamwork in an international setting are essential. This is a fixed-term, part-time (75%) qualification position designed to support your doctoral thesis.

Master's degree or equivalent in Physics

Experience

  • Professional experience in scientific research
  • Experience with numerical models for cosmic ray transport and interactions
  • Experience with object-oriented programming (e.g., C++, Python)
  • Experience in plasma and/or astroparticle physics (preferred)
