Job Summary

This position offers an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Researcher to join an Optical Quantum Technologies research group focused on innovation and diversity. You will conduct and develop research projects in quantum optics and photonics, including theoretical modeling and experimental implementation. Key responsibilities include supervising PhD candidates, developing laboratory experiments in quantum technologies (e.g., NV centers, laser spectroscopy, quantum key distribution), publishing scientific results, and contributing to research proposals. The role requires a PhD in physics or a related field, strong experimental experience in optics and laser systems, and excellent English communication skills. The position is based in Nürnberg, Germany, offering state-of-the-art research infrastructure and academic freedom.

Required Skills

Education

Master’s degree in physics, electrical engineering, photonics, or a related field; PhD in physics or a closely related discipline.

Experience

  • PhD in physics or a closely related discipline
  • Experimental experience in (quantum) optics, electronics, and laser systems
  • Experience in microfabrication and testing of micro-optical structures (ideally)
  • Experience with NV centers (ideally)
  • Experience with photonic integrated circuits (PICs) (ideally)
  • Experience with fiber optics (ideally)
  • Experience in designing and simulating optical systems (ideally)
  • Programming experience for simulations and laboratory control (preferably Python, C++, MATLAB)
  • Experience with version control tools (e.g., Git, SVN) (ideally)
  • Demonstrated research excellence through publications
  • Experience in supervising students or teaching
  • Experience working in international research teams
