Job Summary
This role involves supporting national conservation and species protection efforts within the State Institute for the Environment Baden-Württemberg. You will contribute to developing nationwide protection and action concepts, assessing species distribution and threats, and coordinating monitoring programs. Key responsibilities include supporting the implementation of EU directives like the FFH Directive, developing guidance for species protection enforcement, and assisting with public relations. The position requires a Master's degree in Biology or Landscape Ecology with a focus on nature and species protection, strong German language skills (C1), and good English proficiency. Ideal candidates will have knowledge of conservation biology, species assessment, relevant legislation, and ideally experience with GIS (QGIS). This is a part-time, fixed-term position with opportunities for professional development and flexible working arrangements.
Required Skills
Education
Master's degree (or equivalent) in Biology, Landscape Ecology, or a related field with a focus on nature and species protection. For Master's degrees not obtained at a university, accreditation for access to the higher civil service must be proven at the time of completion. For foreign degrees, a certificate evaluation from the Central Office for Foreign Education is required.
Experience
- Professional experience in nature conservation biology
- Experience with species assessment for FFH Directive species in Baden-Württemberg
- Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is desirable

- Must possess fluent German language skills (minimum C1 level). Good English language skills are required. Must be eligible for higher civil service. Fixed-term contract until June 30, 2031.
