Job Summary
This role at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München's Institute for Digital Cultural Heritage Studies offers a unique opportunity for a Postdoctoral Researcher specializing in AI/ML applications within cultural heritage and archaeology. The successful candidate will engage in interdisciplinary research, publish findings in leading journals, and present work at conferences. Key responsibilities include collaborating with the Machine Learning Consulting Unit (MLCU) and other interdisciplinary teams, contributing to research project acquisition, and teaching Master's level courses on AI/ML programming and data science. The position also involves supervising student theses and managing research and computer laboratories, offering a blend of cutting-edge research, academic instruction, and administrative support in a dynamic, internationally connected environment.
Required Skills
Education
Doctorate (completed by October 1st) in Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science, Geomatics/Software Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Digital Cultural Heritage Research, Archaeology, or a related field with a specialization in Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning.
Experience
- Professional experience in AI/ML applications, especially with cultural heritage data
- Experience with workflows for digitizing cultural heritage and multimodal datasets
- Experience with university teaching and student supervision
- Experience in writing research proposals is desired
Languages
Additional
- Temporary contract for three years with option for extension. Must be able to take on administrative tasks. Eligibility for public service employment in Bavaria. Interest in collaborative research, open science, and ethical implications of AI. Must have an adequate publication list aligning with the institute's research agenda.
