Job Summary

This PhD candidate position offers a highly motivated individual the opportunity to join the Neuroepigenetics and Data Science group at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU). The core focus of the role is the development of novel algorithms for multi-omics data integration, aiming to unravel complex epigenetic mechanisms underlying brain cell function and neurodegenerative diseases. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting exploratory data analysis on large-scale genomic datasets, contributing significantly to scientific publications and presentations, and engaging in collaborative research with neuroscientists and clinicians. The ideal candidate must hold a Master’s degree in a quantitative field such as Bioinformatics, Data Science, or Computer Science, coupled with strong programming proficiency in R or Python. This is a stimulating, part-time (65%) position funded for three years, providing access to a collaborative, interdisciplinary research environment and excellent professional development opportunities within the Graduate School of Systemic Neurosciences.

Required Skills

Education

Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Bioinformatics, Data Science, Computer Science, or Mathematics or a related field

Experience

  • Demonstrated ability to perform data analysis and interpret complex datasets
  • Experience with NGS data analysis (e.g., RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, WGBS, ChIP-seq) (Preferred)
  • Experience using Linux and high-performance computing (HPC) systems (Preferred)
  • Professional experience in scientific publication and presentation
