Job Summary

This position involves conducting comprehensive risk assessments for ammonia bunkering operations at the ports of Bremerhaven and Wilhelmshaven. As a Research Associate, you will play a pivotal role in developing preventive safety concepts and emergency planning to support the transition to ammonia as a sustainable ship fuel. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include coordinating research activities, performing work-scientific analyses of technical bunkering systems, and facilitating workshops with industry stakeholders and public authorities. You will also be responsible for communicating project findings through scientific publications and public relations efforts. This role is ideal for an engineering or science professional with a strong background in safety technology and project management. The position offers the unique opportunity to contribute to significant safety standards in the maritime energy transition while working within a collaborative university environment.

Required Skills

Education

Completed university degree (Master's or Diploma) in an engineering or scientific field.

Experience

  • Professional experience in the coordination and management of research projects
  • Demonstrated experience in applying safety technology, specifically risk assessments and emergency planning
  • Experience in collaborating with commercial enterprises and public authorities is highly desirable

Additional

  • Must be eligible to work in Germany. For degrees obtained outside the EU, a ZAB assessment or ANABIN extract is required. Professional experience in the public sector is preferred but not mandatory. The role is part-time (19.6 hours/week) and fixed-term until May 31, 2027.
