Job Summary

The Federal Institute of Hydrology (BfG) is seeking a Scientific Researcher to join the 'Water Chemistry' department in Koblenz. This role focuses on an innovative research project investigating pollutant emissions from the transport sector. You will work within an interdisciplinary team to develop and apply analytical methods for detecting and identifying organic trace substances in aquatic environments. Your daily responsibilities include conducting laboratory release experiments, planning and executing field measurement campaigns, assessing the environmental impact of pollutants, and publishing research findings. This position offers a unique opportunity to work in a state-of-the-art laboratory environment with high-end analytical equipment, with the explicit encouragement to pursue a doctoral degree. The role is fixed-term until December 31, 2030, and supports a healthy work-life balance through flexible working arrangements.

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree or University Diploma in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Geoecology, or a comparable qualification.

Experience

  • Professional experience in environmental chemistry and instrumental analysis
  • Experience in identifying unknown substances using spectroscopic or mass spectrometric data
  • Experience in planning and conducting field measurement campaigns and laboratory experiments

Additional

  • Willingness to travel for multi-day field campaigns. Must hold a recognized university degree (if obtained abroad, ZAB recognition is required). Work permit for Germany is required.
